SFX: Publiczność - Spontaneous Publics
[ Exhibition project ]
Building on a three-month research visit to Germany, where he was invited by Büro Kopernikus through its “Ambassadors Research Programme”, Kraków artist and activist Roman Dziadkiewicz developed the project "SFX: Publiczność". The project addresses current questions concerning the structure and conditions of publicness in Germany (as an example of a Western European country) and Poland (as an example of a post-socialist country in the process of transformation). The Polish term “publiczność” has a double meaning. On the one hand it means audience, on the other it means public life. The project "SFX: Publiczność" brings together artists, activists, and theorists from Germany and Poland, allowing them to examine differences and similarities of “publiczność” in the two countries and to develop joint projects. The potential as well as the problems of various forms of publicness – such as the Internet, new media, and city space – take centre stage.
The main part of the project will take place over eight weeks at Westfälischer Kunstverein in Münster. Through a succession of installations and alterations, presentations and workshops in the exhibition space, as well as through activities in the Kunstverein’s urban surroundings, "SFX: Publiczność" will develop continuously over the specified period in interaction with the audience.
