Berlin - Warszawa: Metropolis
The cultural exchanges between the larger cities are by far the most visible. This is a good enough reason to cast an eye on what is happening at ‘the others’. In “Polski Berlin”, the feminist-culinary guerrillas, Furia Pierogi, serve the food and we celebrate the art of failure - often quite successfully. In Warsaw, too, it’s all or nothing in the post transition era. Dingy clubs are mushrooming in the basements while, aboveground, the nouvelle riche are celebrating with long drinks in high heels and gelled hair. Whichever way, understated and underground or with the right visiting card in your expensive jacket, at last you have made it.
