The Mechanics of Oblivion. A German-Polish Conference

[ Accompanying events ]
A programme of events accompanying the conference “The Mechanics of oblivion” will showcase additional art projects of Büro Kopernikus.

From 21 to 23 April, Łukasz Ronduda and Florian Zeyfang will present “Forgotten Art Films from Poland”, including the “conceptual-socialist” experimental film “1,2,3 Operator’s Exercise” (“1,2,3 Ćwiczenie operatorskie”) from 1972. This work by Paweł Kwiek inspired an exhibition in Warsaw, which will be organised by Ronduda and Zeyfang in December 2006, and its name: “1, 2, 3 Avant-gardes” brings together works by artists of the 1970s and of our times. The exhibition, a project of Büro Kopernikus, will be on view at the Laboratory Gallery of the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw.

On Saturday, 22 April 2006, at 9 p.m., the Elektropopklub will open its doors in the vaulted basement of riesa-efau, vis-a-vis the Motorenhalle. The Elektropopklub is a temporary club for electronic music and current art. With its workshops, a weekly newspaper, concerts, performances, exhibitions, film screenings, and video art it became THE pop-cultural event of the summer of 2005 in Upper Silesia. In autumn, the Elektropopklub operated at Kunstverein Wolfsburg (Wolfsburg Art Association).
The club’s programme is primarily geared towards a young audience: pop and youth culture intersect with established forms of cultural production.
In Dresden’s Adlergasse 14 the club will give a one-time guest performance, offering a cross-section of its programme from Bytom and Wolfsburg.
Further information can be found here.

Parallel to the conference, the exhibition “Sich einrichten” (“Settling In”), curated by Anna Płotnicka (Wrocław), will be opened. The exhibition was realised by Motorenhalle and is based on the curator’s research visit to Dresden, on which Büro Kopernikus invited her in the course of its Ambassadors Programme.
The exhibition can be seen at Motorenhalle from 21 April to 26 May 2006.
