Jonathan Monk was born in 1969 in Leicester/England. From 1988 to 1991 he studied at the Glasgow School of Arts. He has lived and worked in Berlin since 1999. Focusing on art about art, his works are concerned with the claims of autonomy raised by the conceptual and minimalist art of the 1960s and 1970s. In the process he uses a diverse array of media, such as photography, film, video, performance, installations, but also sculpture and painting.
His work has been featured in numerous solo exhibitions, including Paris, New York, Amsterdam, Berlin, and London.
